Mike Curran

Michael Curran - Partner

Prior to forming The Curran Group, Mr. Curran had a distinguished sales and marketing career with Mobil Oil Corporation. Mr. Curran rapidly progressed within Mobil culminating as National Director of Sales, Chemical Division. He later joined The BOC Group as VP of Global Sales & Marketing. In this role he led the company to unprecedented growth and profitability by securing new clients in both the Asian and European markets.

Mr. Curran began his career in the executive search industry in 1996 with a boutique executive search firm located in the San Francisco Financial District. He quickly became the firm’s top Financial Services producer and subsequently formed The Curran Group in 1997. Mr. Curran developed the Financial Services Practice at The Curran Group by delivering consistently high quality search services to an elite client roster. Mr. Curran has led successful searches in a variety of sectors and disciplines within the capital markets. Under his leadership, The Curran Group has experienced year over year growth by delivering professional and results driven executive search services. 

Mr. Curran graduated cum laude from Niagara University with a B.S. degree in Finance. His success as a four-year starter/two year captain of the Men’s Basketball team led the Utah Jazz to select him in the 1984 NBA draft. He remains involved in basketball as a volunteer coach to a local AAU all-star team.


David Shpiz - Partner

David Shpiz is a Partner with The Curran Group based in the San Francisco office and member of the Financial Services Practice. Previously, he was a search professional with Heidrick & Struggles, located in their Menlo Park, CA office. He was a member of the firm’s financial services and technology practices, with a focus on recruiting executives for private equity and venture capital professionals as well as their portfolio companies. His clients also included hedge funds and publicly traded companies.

Prior to his work at Heidrick & Struggles, David worked for Thomas Weisel Partners in equity research, covering the communications software sector. While at Weisel, he worked with institutional and private funds. His career experience also includes working for Intel Corporation in various business development and product marketing roles. David was part of the team that created and directed the wireless communication strategy worldwide. He focused on wireless carriers and mobile device providers. In addition, he worked with the investing organization at Intel, sponsoring and raising funds for Intel investments.

Additional career experience includes working for Improvista, a venture backed start-up, as Vice President in charge of business development. He successfully led a round of venture financing and concluded with an exit via acquisition.

David received his B.A. from Rollins College and his M.B.A. from Pepperdine University, The Graziadio School of Business.
